22/03/2008 Walking Trail in memory of the first battle for Montdidier
On March 21st the enemy had 186 divisions at its disposal : 108 of these were in the front line, 78 in reserve and there were more to come from the Russian sector. The allies had 158 divisions, of which 97 were in the front line. On the 25th the enemy took Noyon and therefore held the strategic Oise link from Noyon to La Fère. On the 30th March  the 1st army, mobilising between Montdidier and Amiens, held the Germans and prevented their advance. On April 4th the First Army’s front line was as solid as the Third Army’s between Noyon and Montdidier. ...suite

19th and 26th April 2008 Walking Trail in memory of the  fighting of 24th and 25th April 1918 in Villers-Bretonneux
The taking of Villers-Bretonneux by the allies stopped the German attack from reaching Amiens. Mustard gas was used in the battle and more than 1000 Australians were injured as a result. Two German battalions occupied Villers-Bretonneux and moved towards Cachy from where they could approach Amiens. The Australian struggle was led by the 13th and 15th brigades who took no prisoners. This Australian victory led to Villers-Bretonneux being liberated. ...suite

09/08/2008 Walking Trail in memory of the surprise attack in Montdidier on  August 8th 1918
On the given day, August 8th, the Fourth British Army launched an attack at 04-20am. No artillery was involved but tanks were used which managed to penetrate the enemy position. At the same time the First French Army prepared its artillery attack.  On August 9th the attack recommenced along the front north of Montdidier. The British took 13,000 German prisoners during these two days of fighting. The French Army took more than 4,000.... suite

23/08/2008 Walking Trail in memory of the Liberation of the Town of Péronne by Australian troops.
On August 31st 1918 the 2nd Australian Division launched an attack from the Cléry road to Péronne. Their objective was the Mont St Quentin north of Péronne.  The 3rd Division, on the other hand, firstly failed in its attack of the Bouchavesne spur before finally gaining hold. The 2nd Division of the Prussian Guard partially gained the Mont St Quentin summit but the Mont was finally taken by the Australians on September 1st.... suite
